The Shmutz presents: No Accident
The Shmutz presents our first film screening, of the HBO documentary No Accident, followed by a conversation with CBE members — and key leaders of the civil lawsuit against the neo-Nazis who attacked Charlottesville — Michael Bloch and Amy Spitalnick, as well as film director Kristi Jacobson.
In the aftermath of 2017’s deadly “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, a civil lawsuit was filed against white nationalist leaders and organizations on behalf of plaintiffs who suffered injuries while peacefully counterprotesting. No Accident chronicles this seminal civil rights trial, exposing a broad network of conspirators and detailing the challenges of holding those leaders and organizations liable for their actions.
Join us for this unsettling and inspirational story, which shows Bloch, Spitalnick, and their colleagues taking a stand for what they knew was right — all the more crucial at a moment of increasingly normalized extremism and threats to our rights and our democracy.
