Spiritual Autobiography Workshop
Wednesdays, 12-1pm
CBE Boardroom
Feb 5 through May 21, 2025
Join Rabbi Matt Green and CBE Member Carrie Bloss for a special workshop designed for participants to write their own “spiritual autobiographies.” Never heard the term? A spiritual biography is a short essay about your life and how you’ve come to be who you are as a Jew. We define “spirituality” as the process by which we connect the dots in our lives. So if you’re ambivalent about God, that’s OK, too! This is CBE, after all. You will never need to share this text with anyone if you don’t want to. Our hope is that each participant will complete a reflective essay that *could* be shared with either the whole class or close friends and family.
Each week, we will share stories about our lives and answer short writing prompts that will help participants achieve a final goal of completing a written piece by the end of the season. People of all writing levels are welcome to participate. This is a workshop geared more toward participants putting into words their reflections on their own lives than toward an award-winning piece of prose.
Spiritual autobiographies can help individuals articulate for themselves and their communities who they really are. Also, as written texts, they serve as a snapshot of our lives that will endure for a long time to come. We encourage people to take this workshop if they feel they have memories and life experiences worth solidifying in text, and which they want to mark down for posterity.
We will meet for weekly sessions on Feb 5, 12, 19, and 26, and every other week thereafter through May 21.
